PFGBEST NinjaTrader Support adding symbols
I thought traders using NinjaTrader or looking to use it might find this information useful.
I had a client who was getting ready to test some strategies on NinjaTrader using the simulation engine. His question to me was “Trying to add Soybean Oil and Meal to trade on Ninja but it does not seem to receive data”
My next response to him was, “Are you using ZM and ZL?” which are the electronic symbols for Soymeal and Soybean Oil Futures contracts. His reply was yes and that both his demo account and live account were not giving him data, but when he used the BESTDirect 8 platform the data was there.
Here was the solution that was used. We were using the latest version, NinjaTrader 7.0.1000.8 and what seems to have occurred is that some of the symbols were just not mapped. Go to the Tools menu >> and select Instrument Manager. This will bring up a list of all the available master instruments. We found ZL which is Soybean Oil and double clicked on the ZL symbol >> This in turn brings up the Instrument Editor window in NinjaTrader. In this window there are two tabs Definition and Misc. You need to select the Misc tab. From this tab scroll down till you see Symbol map and then since we are trading using PFGBEST data. We noticed that the column to the right was blank. We added the symbol ZL and clicked the OK button. This brought us back to the instrument manager and we repeated the process for ZM Soybean Meal.
Here is a streamlined solution to adding ZL and ZM to NinjaTrader with PFGBEST
- Go to Tools Menu
- Select Instrument Manager
- Find ZL and double click on that symbol
- Select the Misc tab in the Instrument Editor Window
- Scroll down to Symbol Map and Find PFGBEST
- Enter ZL to the right hand column next to PFGBEST
- Hit the OK button
- Go to step 3 and repeat this time using ZM
